# Paper trading

> Practise with virtual money at real prices.

A paper account trades the same instruments at the same prices under the same rules, in the same engine as a live one. Three things differ:

* The money is not real. A paper account is funded by the broker and settles nothing.
* A paper order is never refused for the size of the house book: it is not on it.
* A paper account cannot be withdrawn from, and its money cannot reach a real account.

## Switch to paper

Choose **Paper** in the mode menu at the top of the screen. A **Paper** badge shows on the positions panel while you trade in paper.

## Top up your paper account

Click the gear at the top right, then **Top up paper**. Enter an amount and click **Top up**. A top-up adds play money to your paper account. Each top-up has a maximum, shown on the form.

## Start over

On the Accounts page, under **Reset the paper account**, click **Start this account over**, then **Start over**.

Starting over closes every open position and cancels every pending order on all your paper trading accounts, then sets your paper main account back to its starting amount. Your live accounts are not touched.
