# Getting started

> From a new account to a first order: email, two-factor authentication, a deposit, and the move to a trading account.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open an account">
    An email address and a password are enough. A few questions follow, on how long you have traded
    leveraged products and how many trades you have placed in the last twelve months. Depending on
    your answers, the leverage offered to you can be capped and large orders can ask for a
    confirmation. You also accept the risk warning: CFDs are leveraged instruments and you can lose
    money quickly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose paper or live">
    A paper account starts with play money and trades at real prices, with nothing at risk. A live
    account trades real money. You switch between the two at any time, from the top of the screen.
    See [Accounts](/account/accounts).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Before a first deposit: confirm your email and turn on two-factor">
    Two steps protect the money before it arrives. The confirmation link is sent to the address you
    registered with, is valid for 24 hours, and only the last one sent works. Two-factor
    authentication is a code from an authenticator app, on top of the password, before money can
    move. A passkey, your device's own lock, can stand for the code. See [Security](/money/security).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Deposit">
    Money comes in by card, on the payment provider's page, or from a crypto wallet of yours, in USDC,
    USDT or a network's own coin. It lands on your **main account**, which holds your cash and places
    no orders. See [Deposits](/money/deposits).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Move the money to a trading account">
    Orders are placed from a trading account linked to your main account. Once a deposit is credited,
    use **Move money** to send some of it there. You can open more trading accounts, each in its own
    currency and with its own margin mode.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your leverage">
    In the settings, **Leverage by asset class** holds one leverage per class: crypto, forex, stocks,
    indices and commodities. A new account starts at 1:10 on crypto. Each instrument also has its own
    cap. See [Leverage and margin](/trading/leverage-and-margin).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Place a first order">
    Pick an instrument, a direction and a size, read the fee, the spread, the margin and the
    liquidation price on the ticket, and confirm. See [Placing orders](/trading/placing-orders).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Where to get help

The app's help page sorts the questions customers ask into money, trading, security and costs. For
anything the help does not cover, write from the account concerned, during market hours, and say
in the first line if money is involved.
